Your Questions About Selling On Ebay

Lisa asks…

How long does it take for my Pay Pal to receive a payment from an eBay selling?

I sold something on eBay and it’s been a day since the person bought my item, it says that the checkout was complete but I haven’t gotten the money yet? Should I just hold the item until Pay Pal gets the money? BTW this is the first time I have sold on eBay.

answers:

Yes, hold on to the item until it shows up in your PayPal account. And don’t take any email’s word for it, go directly to PayPal to check.

Michael asks…

How do you make an income on ebay? without selling too much of your things?

Well, I just do the usual stuff on Ebay, selling cards (ex Yugioh, Magic the Gather, and World of Warcraft tcg), the problem is i could sell some and gain some profit but eventually I will loose all of them, and I dont want that to happen. So is there a way to gain income on ebay without losing any of your items?
And lesson on ebay cost something, so can someone give me an advice in earning money without linking me to an Ebay lessons that will cost me something?
Thanks for the answers :)

answers:

Hi – I am a Powerseller and sell 300+ items a month. Have been selling on eBay since 2003 and have sold 12,000 items worldwide.

You can find lots of items at yard sales, estate sales, moving sales, surplus stores, salvage liquidators, thrift stores, etc to resell on eBay. That is where all of my items come from.

I am interested in your comment about “lessons on eBay cost something.” Well, you are right. If you wanted to take a piano lesson, you’d be hard pressed to find a free teacher. Same with horseback riding, computer training, auto repair, or photography. Lessons cost money no matter what you are learning. People’s time is money.

I have a free blog you can read about eBay selling-

How to report tax on ebay selling income?

I am starting to sell on ebay this year, I earn about 2000 per month. when the tax year come, how should i report my tax? if in the future, each month i can earn is about 4000-6000 per month, is it better if i register for a business license?

Thanks

answers:

You will need to file a Schedule C with your federal and state returns. This forms lists all your income and expense. If you make enough, you will also have to start sending in estimated taxes with form 1040-ES and your state’s estimated form as well. Figure about 30% of your net income to go toward taxes, 15.3% for self-employment tax and another 15% or so for state & federal income taxes.

Make sure to keep detailed records of all your income and expenses. You will need documentation in the event of an audit.

Jenny asks…

Does anyone have any advice or pointers for selling things on ebay?

I want to start selling some books that I have on ebay, just not sure how to estimate shipping and would like any advice I can on ebay selling.

answers:

Media mail is applicable to books and only about 2.20 up to the first pound to all domestic addresses. Check rates at usps.com and search for media mail rates. (books and recordings)

i would post a 3.95 shipping handling charge.
Based on the book value, i have better luck posting at a very low start bit (1.00) and figure I make a few on shipping.
- offer shipment discount (say 50%) for multiple items shipped same day same address.
If you are selling textbooks, look at amazons buy back program.
I just sold 3 textbooks back for $65.00 and they paid shipping.

In general, folks will bid an item up but are reluctant to start bidding on a higher priced item. I have sold books for .99 with a 6.95 shipping and handling charge.

Also , don’t do international. Rates are ridiculous unless you are moving collectibles.

God bless….
